will my auto insurance be high if i was not insured before. even though i have my G1.?
Hello,
I’m a 20yr old Male, and I’m planning on getting a used car ( 1999 – 2004 ) bellow $3000 CAD.
The problem is that i was never insured before. I got my g1 on 2007, and my G at 2010. Most of those years i drove with my uncle beside me, because he worked close to my school.
So I was wandering, how high will my insurance will be?
considering the fact that i did not have any insurance and i’m a 20yr old male.
I searched online for quotes and the lowest i got was 499 per month… I am a student, thus i’m only making around 450 – 600 a month doing part time job.
And any suggesting on a car for a first timer is more than welcome.
(colour, make, model, yr. etc. )
Thank you very much for reading this.
- I never took those $400 driving courses… so I have no way of reducing the price…
At your age insurance rates will be very expensive even if you have a good driving record. If you buy a sports car you will pay even more for insurance just because you are a male and the car being a sports car. Depending on what type of vehicle you get will depend a lot on what the insurance rates are. If you could be content with an older but decent vehicle you will be better off on insurance rates. The older the vehicle the less it is worth and the less an insurance company figures it will have to put out should you file a claim. Another way to lower the insurance rates would be to carry only liability insurance. Liability insurance covers only the other driver and their vehicle. It does not cover your vehicle. If you buy a vehicle and have a loan on the vehicle, the loan company will require you to carry full coverage insurance on the vehicle until the loan is paid in full. I know teenagers and young folks like yourself like to have nice newer sporty vehicles and there is nothing wrong with that at all, however you will have to pay for all of that in very high insurance rates. It’s ok if you have parents that will pay for all of it for you or you have a good paying job where you can afford the high rates. If you don’t have either one of those options you are really better off with an older vehicle that is in decent shape where you can cover it with just liability insurance. This way if you have an accident you won’t be out so much money. It all comes down to what you can afford and what type of vehicle you can live with. If you have to have a new or newer car or sports car you will be paying out a ton of money just for insurance not counting all the other costs that go with owning vehicle. If you can live with an older decent vehicle and carry just liability insurance only you will save yourself a lot of money. As for the color of the vehicle, that is a decision you will have to make for yourself. A color I like might not be a color you would like. It has been said that red colored vehicles are stopped more by law enforcement or are involved in more accidents. At one time a few years ago red was the color of choice for most people for a few years. Everyone wanted a red vehicle. I would suspect that there were more red vehicles involved in accidents and stopped by law enforcement during that time frame. Today, that is not the case. So if you heard that red colored vehicles get stopped more and are involved in more accidents than other colors is probably not a correct statement. As for a vehicle that again will depend on what you can live with and what your financial situation will allow you to own. If you intend to use the vehicle just for normal use I would tend to get a vehicle that gets decent fuel mileage and if driving in town most of the time I would prefer a smaller vehicle. But again, that is a decision you need to make for yourself because you will be driving it and spending your own money for it. What might be confrontable for me might not be for you. Just remember, if you have to get a loan on the vehicle you will be required by the loan company to maintain full coverage on the vehicle until you pay it off. If you buy the vehicle out right you can then put just liability insurance coverage on it. Another thing with liability insurance coverage is you can add to the coverage like adding more medical if you want to and the cost isn’t very much more. The more you have the less you might have to pay in a law suit. I prefer to deal with a local independant insurance company. Reason for this is when I have a question or need help I can go down to the office and speak with a real live human instead of being on the phone for a long time and then not get an answer to my question. As for the rates, do some shopping around. Call several different insurance companies and ask them for a quote. They will ask you some questions and within a couple minutes you will know what your rates will be. There are several on line companies that you can get quotes from as well. Don’t be surprised if when you get their quotes the amount they quoted is not the full amount. Some companies give you an amount only to find out they have hidden charges they don’t tell you about until they have you signed up. Just be careful of on line companies. There are a lot of good companies on line and there are a lot of not so good companies.
